more massive support for lights out london
So far politicians, celebrities and big businesses have all spoken out in support of Lights Out London and this week we've been backed by Friends of the Earth and The National Grid.
As one of the world's largest environmental organisations it's great to know that Friends of the Earth are supporting the campaign. Their London Campaigns Coordinator, Jenny Bates said: "Friends of the Earth supports Lights out London and hopes to see as many Londoners as possible involved. The majority of the capital's carbon dioxide emissions come from buildings, so switching off lights and appliances that aren't needed can play a significant role in tackling climate change. It can save money too. The Government must do much more to make it cheaper and easier for people to go green. They should start by ensuring that the new climate change law leads to a cut in UK emissions every year."
Considering that they're responsible for supplying the whole country with electricity it's fantastic to have the National Grid onside too. It's safe to say that they know a thing or two about energy! The National Grid said: "Everyone has a role to play in tackling climate change and we support Capital's Lights Out London initiative as a responsible event to highlight energy efficiency. We are doing our bit as a company to reduce our carbon footprint and want to encourage London businesses and households to consider their impact on the environment."
